Spring's Promise April 2007
This is an introduction to stumpwork, a very basic and fast piece that will teach the stumpwork techniques of padding and wirework so the student will feel more confident attempting more difficult projects. This piece also uses beads as accents. Placement of 'snow' and 'ice' will be discussed in class as student's choice. Experience with buttonhole recommended but not required.
The student will learn how to:
- prepare fabrics for stumpwork
- transfer a skeleton pattern to fabric
- create and appliqué wired elements
- create padded elements
- stitch some surface embroidery

Materials in kit include:
- white satin background fabric
- muslin for backing and wired elements
- clear glass beads
- Kreinik Silk Mori
- Kreinik Silk Serica
- felt padding
- wire
- needles
- instructions
- full pattern
- skeleton pattern
Not included in kit:
- hoops 6", 4" preferably wrapped
- pattern transfer materials
- regular stitching supplies
- any framing or mounting materials
- sewing thread for attaching the wired elements (silk floss *may* be used instead)
- final piece of muslin for framing (to buffer between the piece and the backing board)
